Grayshott Folk Club introduces:
RANAGRI
https://ranagri.com/

This is a gig we’ve been trying to arrange for some considerable time but now the stars have aligned so we can finally announce that Anglo/Irish band Ranagri will be playing live for us at Grayshott Village Hall on Saturday 19th September 2026.

This year, Ranagri have already completed tours in Australia and across the UK but we’ve managed to grab them as they travel the UK on a second tour. Their “Say Hello” Tour heralds a bold new era for this award-winning Indie Folk band, bringing their signature cinematic, prog-infused Folk music to venues up and down the UK this Autumn. With five studio albums already under their belts, a wealth of international touring experience, and standout appearances at major festivals, Ranagri have built a formidable reputation on the global stage, captivating audiences from across Europe to Australia, Montreal and New Orleans.

Now, they turn inward, reconnecting with their roots for what promises to be their most evocative and personal tour to date. Steeped in stories of Ranagri – the farmland in rural Ireland from which the band takes its name – their new, crowd-funded “Say Hello” album, explores themes of migration, identity and the enduring search for the meaning of home. It is a work of depth and resonance, shaped by lived experiences and a profound sense of place.

Renowned for their commanding live performances, the band delivers a sound that is both intricate and expansive. Soaring vocals, rich harmonies, and driving rhythmic energy intertwine with masterful instrumentation – flutes, whistles, harp, bodhrán, hammered dulcimer, percussion and guitars – forming a virtuosic and immersive sound-scape around lead singer Dónal Rogers.

Ranagri are: Dónal Rogers, a singer, guitarist, prolific song writer and producer, who joined forces with the exceptional flautist Eliza Marshall (https://elizamarshall.com/), harpist Eleanor Dunsdon and percussionist Jordan Murray. Together, they established a fresh and modern sonic landscape within the Folk genre, captivating audiences both domestically and internationally. They can be a full-on, energetic Festival band but are equally at home playing Folk Clubs with their more intimate writing and thought-provoking lyrics.

Their last album ‘Tradition II,’ (released July 2022), was widely lauded. Folk Radio UK placed that album in their top 10 albums of 2022, cementing the band’s status as one of the most exciting and innovative Folk bands in the UK today.

Ranagri have performed at some of the most prestigious venues & festivals across the UK and Europe, including; Cambridge Folk Festival, Bloom Festival (Dublin), Montelago Festival (Italy), Towersey Festival, a headline slot at Costa Festival Ibiza 2023, Birmingham Symphony Hall, The Union Chapel, Kings Place London along with regular tours of Scotland and Europe. In 2024, Ranagri played at CROPREDY, WICKHAM & SHREWSBURY Festivals.

RTÉ : ‘Echoes of Pentangle, Jethro Tull and new Celtic Folk sounds, cemented by strong contemporary song writing’

Folk Radio UK: ‘Joyous and thoughtful, with a depth that repays careful listening in spades. Makes for enthralling listening’
Ranagri are as happy to make you dance as they are to make you smile or shed a tear, passionately delving into current world topics, playing with politics, and creating uplifting music to lyrics with great depth.

‘A SOUND THAT’S COMPLETELY NEW AND IMMEDIATELY MAKES YOU WANT TO DANCE’ Katie Derham – BBC Radio 3

A REALLY SERIOUS PROPOSITION LIVE”
Mark Radcliffe – BBC Radio 2

In August 2024, Matthew Bannister devoted a podcast from his “Folk On Foot” series to Ranagri. It was filmed in Ireland on the Farm where Dónal Rogers grew up and which gave the band its name. You can watch the podcast here:
