Farnham Sinfonia Autumn Concert

Join Farnham Sinfonia for a wonderful autumn programme featuring music full of celebration, charm, warmth and energy.

The concert opens with Haydn’s Symphony No. 30, “Alleluia”, one of his most upbeat and celebratory symphonies based loosely on an ancient plainchant, hence the title “Alleluia”.

Next comes Handel’s Organ Concerto in F major, “The Cuckoo and the Nightingale”, a much-loved work celebrated for its melodic charm and sparkling character. Listen out for the delightful bird-song imagery that gives the concerto its evocative title.

The programme then turns to Malcolm Arnold’s Second Clarinet Concerto, written for legendary jazz clarinettist Benny Goodman. Arnold was one of Britain’s leading 20th-century composers and is also renowned for some of the finest film scores ever written. The evening concludes with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4, written during a period when the composer was in love with Therese Brunswick. The symphony is filled with glorious melodic warmth, good humour and radiant energy.
