Young designer’s Winnie-the-Pooh creation blossoms in Gostrey Meadow
A colourful new floral carpet bed featuring Winnie-the-Pooh and Piglet has been unveiled in Gostrey Meadow as part of this year’s Farnham in Bloom. The winning design was created by Marcus S, aged six, from St Mary’s Infant School Frensham.
The theme for this year’s competition was ‘Literary characters inspired by the natural world,’ and celebrates the 100th anniversary of Winnie-the-Pooh.
Marcus’s colourful illustration was selected by a panel of judges before being transformed into a spectacular floral display by a specialist planting team, working alongside Farnham Town Council’s Outside Workforce.
Jane Langton, President of Farnham Lions, says: “Farnham Lions are proud to sponsor the flower bed in Gostrey Meadow, which this year features a wonderful design by Marcus from St Mary’s Infant School. We are delighted to support young people’s creativity and imagination while contributing to Farnham in Bloom.”
Councillor Graham White, Mayor of Farnham says: “The annual carpet bed competition is one of the many highlights of Farnham in Bloom each year. Marcus’s delightful Winnie-the-Pooh design is sure to bring smiles to residents and visitors alike.
“My thanks go to Farnham Lions for their continued sponsorship and to everyone who took part in the competition – there were some truly stunning designs.”
As well as the Winnie-the-Pooh carpet bed, visitors to Farnham can also see a second striking carpet bed near the War Memorial in Gostrey Meadow. The design for this bed incorporates the different colours of poppies that represent various forms of remembrance.
