Join the Great British Spring Clean
Residents are being invited to show their love for where they live by taking part in this year’s Great British Spring Clean from 13 to 29 March.
Farnham Town Council is supporting the national campaign and is encouraging individuals, families and community groups to spare just one hour to pick up litter from a space or place they care about.
Councillor Mat Brown, Lead Member for the Environment says: “Whether it’s a local street, park, green space or pathway, every bag of litter collected makes a difference. Taking part is really simple – all you have to do is choose an area where there is a litter problem, decide whether to litter pick alone or invite family, friends or neighbours to join you and set a date. Once you have done this, contact Farnham Town Council to reserve litter picking equipment and high visibility vests, if required, by emailing [email protected].”
Volunteers are also invited to take part in the Bloomin’ Big Pick in Farnham town centre on Saturday 21 March from 10am to 12 noon. This community event offers an opportunity to join like-minded people who want to make a practical contribution and help clear Farnham’s streets of any litter. At the last community litter pick, volunteers collected over 25 sacks of rubbish in just two hours, demonstrating how a small contribution from many people can have a significant impact.
To take part in the Bloomin’ Big Pick, residents should register their interest and come along to Farnham Town Hall at 10am. Participants will receive a health and safety briefing, be provided with litter picking equipment and allocated an area to cover. Free refreshments will be available at Farnham Town Council after the event.
As well as arranging organised litter picks, Farnham Town Council also supports volunteers who choose to incorporate a weekly litter pick into their regular walk or organise a monthly tidy-up of a favourite street or green space near where they live or work. Councillor Brown adds: “Litter picking is a simple and flexible way to show pride in the neighbourhood. If you would like to get involved on a regular basis, please do get in touch so we can equip you with all necessary litter picking equipment, insurance and support from your local town councillor.”
