Deputy Mayor visits Farnham’s twin town in Germany

Published: Thursday October 30, 2025

The friendship between Farnham and its twin town Andernach has been celebrated during a recent visit to Germany by the Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress of Farnham.

During the trip, Councillor Graham White and Judy White were taken on excursions to experience and understand the complex volcanic environment of the surrounding Eifel Area. A highlight of the stay was Kultur Nacht – a weekend of culture celebration – which included visits to many of Andernach’s heritage buildings and the opportunity to see street art and stage performances of music and prose.

As a celebration of the friendship between the two towns, a civic reception was held in honour of the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress and members of the Farnham-Andernach Friendship Association. The reception provided an opportunity to explore new opportunities for cultural exchange and included speeches by the Oberburgermeister of Andernach, Christian Greiner; the Deputy Mayor of Farnham, Councillor Graham White and the Chair of the Friendship Association, Nikki Gilbert.

Speaking after the visit, Councillor White said: “It was a privilege to represent Farnham in our twin town and to experience the warmth of their hospitality. Twinning is about building friendships across borders, sharing ideas, and strengthening community ties, and I look forward to seeing how this partnership continues to grow.”

Next year, a celebration marking 35 years of town twinning will be held in Farnham. This will be a weekend of cultural presentations by both towns and is expected to include a return visit by the highly acclaimed Andernach City Orchestra.
