Vote for Gostrey Meadow in National Parks Competition
Farnham Town Council is encouraging residents to vote for the best of its best open spaces in the People’s Choice Top Ten parks competition run by Keep Britain Tidy.
As award-winning open spaces with the prestigious Green Flag accreditation, Gostrey Meadow, West Street, Hale and Badshot Lea Cemeteries have been invited to enter the national contest, which celebrates the best-loved green spaces across the country. Voting is open until 5pm on 31 October.
Councillor Mat Brown, Lead Member for Environment says: “We take great pride in managing our green spaces and are delighted to have been invited to take part in this competition. Our cemeteries are havens for wildlife and ideal for a peaceful walk or quiet contemplation away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
“By contrast, Gostrey Meadow is also the showground for many of our town centre community events including Music in the Meadow throughout the summer, Christmas lights switch-on, the Sustainability Festival and the carnival. In between times, you’ll find families having fun in the exciting new playground and volunteers taking part in projects which benefit the environment and boost biodiversity. Gostrey Meadow brings people together and is a very important focus for the whole community. Whilst voting for your favourite park, why not vote for your favourite cemetery too!”
The nation’s top ten favourite parks will be announced at a virtual award ceremony on Thursday 20 November.
