Volunteers come together for town-wide litter pick

More than 30 local volunteers came together on Saturday (8 November) for a large-scale community litter pick ahead of this year’s Remembrance Sunday parade.

Across the morning, volunteers collected approximately 26 bags of litter, clearing everything from food packaging, cigarette butts, bottles, cans and broken glasses to discarded dog-waste bags and a drill bit.

Teams of litter pickers spread out across key areas of the town, focusing on the parade procession route and several well-used public spaces. Areas covered included:

  • Hickley’s Corner to the Station
  • Dogflud Way and the Skate Park
  • Brightwells Yard
  • Various alleyways leading into the town centre.

Councillor Mat Brown, Lead Member for Environment praised the strong turnout and the enthusiasm shown by residents of all ages. He said: “It was fantastic to see so many people come together to take pride in our town. Everyone rolled up their sleeves, worked hard, and helped make sure the town looked its best for Remembrance Sunday. We’re incredibly grateful to all who took part.”

With Downing Street having recently reopened following the completion of roadworks, Farnham Town councillors and Greg Stafford MP dedicated additional time to ensuring the street was tidied and refreshed.

To round off the morning, volunteers gathered to enjoy well-earned tea and cake.
