New Christmas lights

Christmas lights in a street

New Christmas lights are set to be installed in Farnham this week ready for the official switch on event on Saturday 22 November.

For the first time ever, the lights will extend up to The Mulberry public house near Farnham train station. Icicle lights will line South Street and a cross street lighting scheme will illuminate West Street, Downing Street, South Street and East Street. A festive Christmas tree will take pride of place in The Woolmead and, in partnership with Skanska, a special scheme has been designed for the street lights in Castle Street. New lights will also be installed in Gostrey Meadow.

Councillor Jill Hargreaves, Lead Member for Tourism and Events says: “This year’s Christmas lights are new and promise to be spectacular. Thousands of LED bulbs will bring sparkle and light to the town centre.”

She adds: “A lot of thought has gone into the design of the new Christmas lighting scheme, which is very tasteful and will be in keeping with our beautiful Georgian town centre. We are very grateful to the businesses, retailers and private residents who have agreed to allow, and in some cases pay for, lights to be hung from their buildings. This cooperation and collaborative working has meant we have been able to expand the Christmas lighting to an even wider area of the town centre. I am very much looking forward to seeing the lights switched on; they will create a beautiful, glittering back drop for Christmas shoppers.”

As well as installing lights in the town centre, for the second year running Farnham Town Council has extended its Christmas lights to even more of Farnham’s villages. The yew tree in the church yard at Badshot Lea will be adorned with lights as will Rowledge Village Hall.
