Farnham Town Council is celebrating continued success in the national Green Flag Awards with four of its green spaces recognised for excellence in 2025.

Hale Cemetery has been awarded its second consecutive Green Flag, while Badshot Lea Cemetery and West Street Cemetery have each retained their Green Flag status for the third year running. Gostrey Meadow continues to reflect the investment by Farnham Town Council, securing the award for the fifth year in a row.

Reaccreditation is a particular achievement, highlighting the Council’s commitment to continuous improvement and high standards in managing public open spaces for the enjoyment of visitors and benefiting biodiversity.

Councillor Mat Brown, Lead Member for Environment, said: “We’re thrilled that all four sites have received this recognition. It reflects the hard work and vision we have for our green spaces, and it confirms that our efforts are making a real difference. Over the past year, as well as ongoing maintenance, we’ve created a wildlife area at Gostrey Meadow, have developed some new beds at Longbridge following the removal of old shrubs, and have recently secured planning permission for a new amenity building which will include new public toilets.”

Councillor Brown also praised the local community for its hands-on support: “A huge thank you goes to our dedicated volunteers who take part in working parties, litter picks and many other activities. If you’d like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you – just drop us a line at bloom@farnham.gov.uk.”

Looking ahead, Farnham Town Council remains focused on enhancing its green spaces. Biodiversity efforts in the cemeteries will continue to grow, and improvements to Green Lane Cemetery are underway with the aim of securing its first Green Flag in 2026.
