Farnham flies the Commonwealth flag

Farnham Town Council celebrated Commonwealth Day on Monday 10 March by raising the Commonwealth flag outside the Town Council Offices in South Street.

The Town Council was one of 500 local authorities and community groups throughout the UK to take part in the flag raising, which was the largest, single raising of the flag in the history of the Commonwealth.

The Mayor of Farnham, Cllr Paddy Blagden read a message from the Queen and read the Affirmation of the Commonwealth. A recording of the Commonwealth Anthem, performed by The Commonwealth Youth Orchestra with the Children’s Choir, was also played.

The Mayor was joined by Sir Ray Tindle CBE DL; Lance Corporal Lucy Olivieri, Farnham Reserves Centre; Sam Nichols, Head Boy at All Hallows School; Mr Bob Hockey, Farnham Hedgehogs and Cllr John Ward.

Her Majesty, The Queen was the last to break the Commonwealth flag outside the Great West Door of Westminster Abbey at the Commonwealth Day service.
