Music and dance this Sunday

Dance will be combined with music during an extended Music in the Meadow on Sunday 3 July.

The afternoon’s entertainment will begin at 12 noon with an advance showing of a specially choreographed dance that will be performed before the judges of Farnham in Bloom on 7 July. Around 150 young people are involved in Farnham Blooming, which is the creation of The Dance Movement. The theme for the community dance project is the ‘Green Man’, which is a symbol that is often interpreted as representing the cycle of growth.

The dancing will be followed by an hour-long set by The Rock Choir. At 1pm, around 60 members from the Farnham group will sing songs from Queen, Erasure and Katie Perry. They will also be expecting some audience participation!

At 3pm, some of Farnham’s finest young talent will take to the stage as local musician Vic Cracknell presents the annual Young Artists’ Showcase. The event will be headlined by the Harry Baker Band and provides local, young performers with an opportunity to play before an audience.

Councillor Jill Hargreaves, Lead Member for Tourism and Events says: “Sunday’s Music in the Meadow will provide five hours of free music, dance and entertainment. It will be a real treat to see so many young dancers performing their special dance for the Farnham in Bloom judges.

“This is the fourth year that we have held the Young Artists’ Showcase and I never cease to be amazed by the level of talent.”

Light refreshments will be available to buy during Music in the Meadow. The charity tea tent will be run by The Royal Voluntary Service. The charity provides Farnham’s meals-on-wheels service and is committed to drawing older people out of isolation with a range of community activities.
