Festive cheer in Farnham

Garlands of Christmas decorations made from dried oranges

Festive cheer was in abundance at Farnham’s Christmas market on Sunday.

Thousands of people attended the market, which was organised by Farnham Town Council. Over one hundred stalls lined Castle Street and there were additional stalls and attractions such as Father Christmas and a live nativity at the Mercure Bush Hotel.

Elaine Ninnes who visited the market with her family said: “The market was really busy and there was so much to see. I bought some delicious cheese to enjoy at Christmas and a lovely handmade decoration. We also enjoyed a glass of mulled wine while listening to the live entertainment. It was great to see so many people supporting the market – I think events such as this are good for the town.”

Speaking after the event, Councillor Jill Hargreaves, Lead Member for Tourism and Events said: “This is the second year running that we have held the Christmas market and judging by the number of people that visited, I think we are earning ourselves a reputation for being organisers of quality events. It is thanks to our sponsors Specsavers Farnham, Kidd Rapinet and Trueman and Grundy that we are able to hold events such as the market. It was lovely to see so many people.”

As well as the Christmas market, shoppers could also visit the monthly Farmers’ Market, which was held in Central car park. The market provided a range of fresh local produce direct from the producer. The next Farmers’ Market will be held on Sunday 24 January from 10am to 1.30pm.
