Views wanted on cemetery chapels

Stone chapels in graveyard.

Hale residents are being asked for their views on a number of options for the future of the chapels in Hale cemetery.

The concepts, which have been considered to date but have not been progressed for various reasons, will be shown along with other possibilities at Hale Village Hall on Saturday 28 June between 12.15pm and 2pm. This is an opportunity for the community to give initial comments on what should be done.

The consultation is taking place following an exhibition that was held by Farnham Town Council in 2013 to look at the future of the town’s cemeteries. Residents were asked for their views on how the redundant chapels at West Street, Green Lane and Hale cemeteries should be used.

This input led to Green Lane chapel being sold for conversion into residential accommodation, funding being allocated for the adaptation of West Street into a workshop for a local sculptor and essential work on Hale chapels.

Cllr Carole Cockburn, Lead Member for Cemeteries says: “We are happy that we have achieved a good outcome for the chapels at West Street and Green Lane, which now leaves the two small chapels at Hale. We have explored the feasibility of a number of options and are now at the stage where we wish to share these ideas and gauge the feelings and views of the local community.”

Anybody who is not able to attend the exhibition but is interested in what is proposed can see the choices and comments until the middle of July.
