Farnham Folk Day kick starts a summer of free, live music

Group of Morris dancers.

Farnham’s programme of Music in the Meadow concerts got off to a wonderful start on Sunday (25 May) with the return of the Farnham Folk Day.

The extended concert which was organised by Farnham Town Council brought people together for a family-friendly celebration of folk music and traditions.

Councillor Kika Mirylees, Lead Member for Culture and Business said: “From lively Morris dancing, workshops and live performances by talented local musicians, Farnham Folk Day had something for everyone. With the concert falling at the start of half term and on a bank holiday weekend, we saw lots of families coming together which added to the lovely warm and friendly atmosphere. As always, we are grateful to Kidd Rapinet and Shaw Gibbs for being our Principal sponsors. Thanks to their support, we were able to bring a whole afternoon of free entertainment for residents and visitors to Farnham.”

Farnham Folk Day’s charity tea tent was hosted by the Farnham and Andernach Friendship Association. As well as raising funds through the serving of countless cups of tea and coffee and slices of cake, the Association also had the opportunity to promote links with Andernach, Farnham’s twin town.

The Music in the Meadow programme will continue throughout the summer with a range of concerts featuring diverse musical styles. Details about the concerts and other upcoming events can be found on the events calendar.
