Farnham’s Christmas lights switch-on

The Christmas lights in Farnham town centre will be switched on by the Mayor and some very special guests on 19 November at 4.30pm. Throughout the afternoon there will be live entertainment and activities for children including mini fairground rides and a craft table. There will even be a rodeo reindeer for shoppers to try out!

The Mayor of Farnham, Councillor Alan Earwaker, says: “The switch-on event is always great fun so make sure you come into the town centre to join us. It is the perfect opportunity to start your Christmas shopping if you haven’t done so already. There will be plenty going on in town throughout the afternoon, from stalls and refreshments to face painting, a Santa’s grotto and music performances. Come down and support local retailers and be sure to try out the rodeo reindeer, too – just make sure you put down your mulled wine first!”

The switch-on is organised by Farnham Town Council and generously supported with sponsorship by Swish Fibre, a full fibre broadband provider for homes and businesses and Farnham Veterinary Hospital.

Also at Gostrey Meadow will be a live nativity scene featuring Mary, Joseph and farm animals. Children will be able to meet Father Christmas in his grotto and tell him what gifts they hope to receive on the big day. Each child who visits Santa will receive a free gift to take home.

As well as lively performances of well-known hits from schools and theatre groups, shoppers can get into the Christmas spirit with performances of traditional carols while they browse the stalls and shops.

The Christmas lights switch-on is just one of the Christmas events taking place in Farnham during November and December.
