The countdown for Farnham’s free, two week Walking Festival has begun, making May the month to get outdoors and explore Farnham on foot.

The Festival, which is sponsored by Breaking Free, the Farnham Farmers’ Market and the Co-Op will begin on Sunday 20 May. There will be 37 guided walks ranging from short strolls and circular walks to a 14-mile hike across the North Downs Way or a 13-mile run from Farnham to Guildford.

Councillor Jill Hargreaves, Lead Councillor for Tourism and Events says: “The Walking Festival is a wonderful way to find out more about Farnham and all that it has to offer. Walk leaders will take you on a journey of discovery as they share their knowledge about local history, heritage, archaeology, art, nature and Farnham’s industrial past. Walkers will stumble across buildings, views and sights that can only be experienced on foot. There is a marvellous range of walks to choose from so I do advise walkers to book early as places are limited.”

The walks programme caters for all fitness levels and abilities and includes walk-related events such as an introduction to Nordic walking and a class where you can learn the basics of an efficient gait.

Full details about each of the walks and information about their suitability can be found on Farnham Town Council’s website. Alternatively, a Walking Festival programme can be picked up from the Council Office in South Street and information points around town.

Walk bookings can be made online. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
