Hanging baskets planted by volunteers are beginning to make an appearance outside shops and businesses in Farnham.

During one bumper planting session in early May, the volunteers filled 70 baskets with plants and flowers which include petunias, begonias and calibrachoa. After being planted, the baskets were looked after by Farnham Town Council’s outside workforce until the plants were established and ready for display.

Councillor Mat Brown, Lead Member for Environment says: “The volunteers were very efficient and worked brilliantly as a team to complete the task at hand – we are very grateful for their efforts.

“Many of the hanging baskets have already been sponsored by local businesses but we still have a few available. With the baskets on display until September, it works out at around £1 a day to sponsor. For this nominal fee, we’ll hang the basket, feed and water the flowers and make sure everything stays fresh, healthy and looking its best.”

Hanging baskets can also be sponsored by individuals looking for an unusual gift or tribute to a loved one.
