Farnham Town Council appoints new Clerk & CEO
Farnham Town Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Lisa O’Sullivan as its new Town Clerk & CEO, following a rigorous and competitive recruitment process.
Lisa brings over 16 years of local council experience to the role. She joins Farnham from Haslemere Town Council, where she has served as Town Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer (RFO), leading the council’s transformation into a proactive, community-focused organisation.
Councillor John Ward chair of the interview panel says: “Lisa impressed the interview panel at every stage of the process. She was the outstanding candidate in a strong field, and we are delighted that she will be joining Farnham Town Council in the next stage of its development. Lisa demonstrated a clear vision for Farnham’s future, strong leadership qualities and a genuine passion for community-focused local government. We look forward to welcoming her to Farnham.“
A highly qualified clerk, Lisa holds both CiLCA and a Certificate of Higher Education in Community Governance. She is also a branch mentor for Surrey SLCC, supporting clerks across the county. Prior to her career in local government, Lisa held senior roles in IT and project management. She has applied this experience to modernise council operations.
During her tenure at Haslemere, Lisa has overseen the acquisition and management of key open spaces, public facilities and biodiversity assets, and delivered significant capital projects. She has a strong track record in strategic planning, financial management and stakeholder engagement.
Councillor George Murray, Leader of the Council says: “Lisa’s appointment follows the planned phased retirement of the current Town Clerk, Iain Lynch who is stepping down after 15 years in the role. He will continue in an advisory role for a six-month handover period providing continuity and capacity in the run up to the creation of the new West Surrey Unitary Authority and the completion of projects which are currently being implemented. The new title of ‘Town Clerk & CEO’ reflects the broad scope of the role and will support Farnham Town Council in building relationships with external partners and organisations.”
“Farnham Town Council is a high achieving council with an ambition to continue to deliver great things for its community,” says current Town Clerk Iain Lynch. “I have been privileged to play a part in shaping Farnham’s future, serving the people of Farnham, alongside dedicated colleagues, councillors and our amazing volunteers. I begin a flexible retirement knowing the council will be in excellent hands. Lisa brings exactly the skills, vision and energy that Farnham needs at this exciting and pivotal moment in its history, and I wish her every success in the role.”
Incoming Town Clerk & CEO, Lisa O’Sullivan says: “I am passionate about the role that town councils play in shaping community life, and I am excited to bring my experience and commitment to Farnham. I look forward to working with councillors, staff and the wider community to help the town thrive.”
Lisa O’Sullivan will take up the post in early September 2026.
