Farnham community organisations invited to apply for £500,000 of funding

Published: Monday November 2, 2026

Half a million pounds of funding is being made available by Farnham Town Council to help local charities, community groups, sports clubs and other not-for-profit organisations deliver projects that support the needs of Farnham’s growing population.

Three levels of funding are available. Micro awards of £500 to £10,000, Small awards of £10,001 to £25,000 and Standard awards of £25,001 and above.

The funding comes from Farnham’s share of the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) which is a charge imposed on qualifying new developments in Farnham. Farnham Town Council receives 25 per cent of CIL collected within its area and wants to make more of this funding accessible to organisations that can deliver projects directly for the benefit of local people.

Applications must demonstrate a clear link between the proposed project and the demands that development places on Farnham. Projects could include improving community buildings, expanding sports and recreation facilities, creating better play opportunities for children and facilities for young people, improving walking and cycling routes, enhancing green spaces and biodiversity, or making public facilities more accessible.

Other potential projects such as local flood and drainage improvements, community safety measures, and heritage, cultural and learning facilities that are open to the public may also be suitable.

Councillor George Murray, Leader of Farnham Town Council says: “Farnham is growing, and we want to make sure that our community facilities, green spaces and local infrastructure continue to meet residents’ needs. Our Neighbourhood CIL funding provides an opportunity for local organisations to turn good ideas into practical improvements that benefit the town.

“We know that community groups, charities and sports clubs understand local needs and often have the expertise and enthusiasm to deliver projects that make a real difference. We want to encourage organisations of all sizes to explore this opportunity, particularly those who may not have applied for Council funding before.”

Applications are welcome from not-for-profit organisations delivering a project in the Farnham Town Council area or for the benefit of residents. The funding is intended for projects that deliver lasting benefits and cannot be used for projects that have already started or been completed, or for routine running costs, salaries and maintenance.

Full eligibility criteria, funding limits and application guidance is available on Farnham Town Council’s website. Farnham Town Council welcomes early conversations with organisations considering larger projects.

Completed applications and supporting documents for Small and Standard awards should be submitted by 3 January 2027. Applicants will be notified about the outcome of their application after Full Council on 11 March. Micro award applications can be submitted at any time of the year and will be decided under the Council’s Scheme of Delegation.
