An expat Australian singer now settled in London, Lily Dior comes with an impressive and extensive cv. The daughter of professional musicians, Lily spent her first five years touring the world before finally settling in Australia. Her debut album ‘Invitation’ received universal praise and put Lily firmly on the Australian music map.
“She can belt out a song, dramatize a lyric, swing hard and earthy, flirt, sing a tender song – Lily can tell a story” ABC.
In what is now an extensive and highly respected career Lily is recognised as one of Australia’s foremost vocalists. She has shared the stage with a who’s who of world-class musicians including Oscar Castro Neves, Dale Barlow and James Morrison and includes numerous TV and Radio appearances as well as hosting her own show on Sydney’s premier jazz station ‘Eastside Radio’ for over ten years.
The music tonight will showcase Lily’s jazz credentials as she presents a Tribute to one of her favourite singers, the iconic vocalist Sarah Vaughan. The material will be drawn from Sarah’s vast repertoire, all performed with the powerful and charismatic vocals that are Lily’s trademark. I rate her so highly I asked her to perform with my band, trust me she’s well worth catching.
“Jazz and soul coexist in Lily Dior’s repertoire, and in her vocal style… sassy, soulful, passionate and strong.” Rhythms magazine
Also featured tonight will be the brilliant saxophonist Dave Lewis. Dave robust and melodic tenor sax playing has been heard with a notable list of artists including John Martyn, Bryan Ferry, Joan Armatrading, John Mayall, Eric Clapton.
“It’s a real treat…tight chunky grooves and very exciting and funky sax…this is an absolute breath of fresh air. Dave Lewis…sets a standard of powerful, fiery solos that will be hard to surpass” Blues and Soul
