ADAM BEATTIE with FIONA BEVAN + Friends

I first saw Adam Beattie and Fiona Bevan play at St. Christopher’s Church in Haslemere, in May 2023. My musical friend Basil Brooks had recommended them to me and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to them both. They are a formidable musical pair and each accompanied the other as they played and sang songs they had written themselves. Friend Chris added Percussion. I enjoyed their gig so much, I thought I would share their music with you all and I booked them for Grayshott Folk Club! Scottish singer/songwriter and guitarist Adam Beattie is a celebrated artist of the London scene and has toured widely in the UK and throughout Europe. Having roots in Scottish Folk music, and a lifelong interest in old time Jazz and Blues, Adam’s music is defined by his distinctive lyrical voice, narrative lyrics and finger style guitar playing. His current (5th) solo album “Somewhere Round The Bend” has received widespread critical acclaim with Mojo Magazine referring to his: “uplifting reveries of love and loss through romantic balladry” and Loud And Quiet Magazine describing it as: “mesmeric”. Adam is currently working on his next solo album for release in 2024 and previewed the title track “Home Fires Burning” at Haslemere. In fact, he started his set with “A Thousand Roads” and “Home Fires Burning” and had me, right there. What a cracking pair of songs!

The songs on Adam’s new album will be a continuation of his timeless Scottish Folk trademark sound, with incisive melodies and rooted narratives on the theme of home and our relationship to where we are from. I’m really looking forward to hearing some very special songs by Adam and Fiona Bevan and a few of their musical friends will be playing alongside him to create a full band sound.

Fiona Bevan is a highly-accomplished and well-recognised songwriter, achieving a Number 1 album with Kylie Minogue and penning hit songs with household names such as: Ed Sheeran, Lewis Capaldi, Tom Walker, Steps, Dan from Bastille and many more. Her collaboration with Ed Sheeran, “Little Things” became a Number 1 hit in 13 countries for One Direction. Fiona is currently writing with Nile Rodgers and working with new artists including Joy Crookes, Zak Abel, Ewan Mainwood, Tom King & Tamzene amongst others.

As well as writing songs, Fiona is also a talented performer, whose unique voice is instantly recognisable. When I saw her perform with Adam in Haslemere, she played Acoustic and Electric Guitars as well as Double Bass. Her songs and performances come straight from the heart and she draws her audience in with her warmth and honesty.

Over several years, Adam and Fiona have forged their own solo careers but by combining together, they are also forging making a formidable partnership. Don’t miss this opportunity to see two very talented young musicians, up close and personal, before they start attracting the attention of much bigger venues.
