The winners of Farnham Town Council’s Secret Gardens competition have been revealed.

Nearly 50 awards were made across eight categories including the Best Public House/Hotel, Courtyard, Large Garden, Front/Back/Small Garden and Wildlife Garden.

Farnham’s pubs made a special effort with seven receiving awards for their floral contribution to Farnham in Bloom. The Hop Blossom in Long Garden Walk was judged to have the edge and was announced as winner of the gold award.

Classical Floral Designs in Borelli Yard won Best Shop Front and the Farnham Maltings was judged as the Best Business Premises.

The remaining category winners include:

  • Sue Ware, Best Courtyard
  • Sheelin and John Hemsley, Best front, back or small garden
  • Brenda Guyver, Best hanging basket or container
  • Max and Kate Lyons, Best Large Garden, and
  • Beryl Webster, Best Wildlife Garden

Councillor Stephen Hill, Lead Member for Farnham in Bloom says: “It has been a challenging year for gardeners but our Secret Garden entrants have managed to achieve remarkable results. A stunning hanging basket can be a real talking point and a beautiful garden can inspire others to get gardening.

“It is thanks to our Corporate Sponsor Specsavers in Farnham and other sponsors that we are able to hold competitions such as Secret Gardens. It is a really positive way to enhance the environment and for the whole community to get involved.”

Everybody who entered the Secret Gardens competition will be invited to the Farnham in Bloom Awards’ ceremony in October. Winners will receive a trophy and/or gardening voucher donated by gold sponsors Forest Lodge Garden Centre, Squire’s Garden Centre and The Patio Blackspot Removal Co Ltd. The winner of the new Madge Green Community Gardening Project Awards will also be announced at the awards ceremony.

Details about how to enter next year’s competition will be available from spring 2019.
