Next generation gardeners

Young gardeners have given a big thumbs-up to Farnham Town Council’s Bloomin’ Kids Easter gardening workshops.

The free workshops saw youngsters planting marigolds to take home and learning how to sow broad beans, peas and beetroot. The Farnham in Bloom community group devised an arts and craft activity, which involved everybody working together to make a large collage for Blooming Art.

Councillor Stephen Hill, Lead Member for Community Enhancement says: “Once again, the workshops have proved to be very popular with every place fully booked. It was wonderful to see the children so enthusiastic about the activities. They enjoyed getting their hands dirty and soaked up knowledge about how to look after their marigolds at home. I’m sure it won’t be long before they will be able to enjoy seeing them bloom!”

Farnham Town Council first introduced the Bloomin’ Kids gardening workshops as a way to generate an interest and passion for gardening in the town’s next generation of horticulturists. The workshops are free of charge and children get to take away something they have planted so that their interest and curiosity can continue to germinate.

Bloomin’ Kids is part of Farnham in Bloom, which is sponsored by Specsavers in Farnham. The workshop was led by Farnham Town Council and members of the Farnham in Bloom community group. The next Bloomin’ Kids Gardening Workshops will be held in October half term. Details about how to book will be available nearer the time on this website.
