Flowers brighten up East Street

Volunteers have recently added a splash of colour to refresh a focal point of East Street, Farnham by planting a vibrant selection of summer bedding plants in a raised bed and seating area. The gardeners, all volunteers from Farnham in Bloom Community Group and young people’s organisation, Post 19, planted petunias, begonias and French marigolds.

“Before volunteers cleared this area last year, it was unattractive and untidy. They transformed it into an inviting seating area accompanied by shrubs and seasonal planting to give year-round interest. I’d like to thank this year’s volunteers who have given up their time to once again keep this area looking attractive and welcoming for shoppers and passers-by,” says Councillor Stephen Hill, Lead Member for Community Enhancement. “If you are interested in volunteering for a similar project or know an area that needs improving, please let us know at Farnham Town Council.”

Post 19 is a voluntary organisation that provides meaningful activities for local young people with learning difficulties, offering them an alternative to college and day centres. The Farnham in Bloom Community Group organises Farnham in Bloom in conjunction with Farnham Town Council and is made up of local volunteers with an interest in gardening.

This is one of many activities and projects planned as part of Farnham in Bloom 2017, which is seeing the town transformed with stunning floral displays and creative planting schemes.

Farnham Town Council would like to hear from other residents who are interested in taking part in community projects that make Farnham an even better place to live. Contact Lara Prior at lara.prior@farnham.gov.uk or visit Farnham in Bloom to find out more.
