Tidying up East Street

A neglected, raised flower bed around a seating area on East Street is being transformed by members of the Farnham in Bloom Community Group, Heath End Gardeners and young people from Post 19.

The bed is situated at the end of a pedestrian walkway through to Stoke Hills and has become overgrown with brambles and shrubbery. The volunteers are clearing the foliage so that the young people from Post 19 can plant the bed with flowers and bedding plants.

Councillor Stephen Hill, Lead Member for Community Enhancement says: “The poor condition of the bed was first brought to our attention by a resident who attended the Annual Town Meeting at the end of March. Although it is not clear who is responsible for the flower bed, members of the Farnham in Bloom Community Group were more than happy to take on the task of improving this unattractive area.”

He adds: “This year, Britain in Bloom is challenging participants to transform nondescript grey areas by creating more green places that people can enjoy. As the bed is located at the side of a very busy road into Farnham, it is nice to know that hundreds of people will benefit from the efforts of the volunteers.”
