Mayor makes promises of office

The Mayor of Farnham, Cllr Jeremy Ricketts was joined by family, friends and special guests as he made his promises of office on Sunday15 June. The service took place at the parish church of St Andrew’s and looked at the Council’s commitment to serving the community over the coming year.

Guests included the Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP, Sir Ray Tindle CBE DL, the former Mayor of Waverley Cllr Patricia Ellis and town Mayors from Alton, Haslemere and Godalming.

The Service was led by The Reverend Canon Nigel Nicholson DL and included contributions from church leaders from St Michael the Archangel, Aldershot, Farnham Methodist Church and Farnham United Reform Church.

The service began with a procession into church by the Mayoral and civic party and was followed by hymns and prayers. In his sermon, Reverend Canon Nigel Nicholson spoke about the importance of service for people and for the Mayor to show leadership in all that he did.

A retiring collection was made for the Post-19 Group, which is the Mayor’s charity. Post-19 offers a community-based programme for young adults with learning difficulties. The programme includes life skills, leisure and social skills.

Speaking after the Civic Service the Mayor thanked everyone for being a part of such a special service and that he was looking forward to serving the people of Farnham in the year ahead.
