Sample Weekend 2 - Escape to the countryside

Escape to Farnham for the Weekend and breathe the country air.  The scenic heathland and woods that surround Farnham have long been a popular destination for those that enjoy the great outdoors with a wealth of walking and cycling opportunities.

Although so close to London, you'll feel a million miles away in the surprising oasis of quiet rural charm.

Friday

Arrive in Farnham on Friday afternoon, check into your B&B or hotel room.

Between April and September visit Farnham Castle Keep and explore the mighty shell of the castle.  Take the inclusive audio tour and learn about the fortress palace rich in history.

After exploring the Keep visit the Castle itself during the months of June, July and August for a guided tour at 2.30pm.  The Castle is the former home of the Bishop of Winchester and Guildford and is now the international Briefing and Conference Centre.

After visiting the Castle, to get you ready for exploring the great outdoors, visit Farnham Park, where the Bishop of Winchester used to keep his deer.  Today the park is a haven for wildlife and you can marvel  at the views of Farnham roof tops.

Enjoy supper in one of the towns many restaurants.

Saturday

Visit the countryside surrounding Farnham and enjoy one of the three Surrey Hills circular walks starting from Frensham Great Pond.   You can collect your trail from the information centre at  the Great Pond or download from the Surrey Hills website before you travel.

Enjoy a light lunch in either one of the pubs nearby or in the Rural Life Centre Café.

Have a pleasurable afternoon visiting the Rural Life Centre with its largest countryside collection in the South East.  The Rural Life Centre also has an extensive and varied events calendar throughout the year – this can be viewed on the Rural Life Centre’s website.

Head back into Farnham for the evening and enjoy a relaxing evening meal.

Sunday
