The garden is on the site of the former open air swimming baths, built to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. Victoria Garden is located off South Street on Brightwells Road.
A fine red brick archway designed for the baths by local architect Harold Falkner, in 1887, provides an historic backdrop for the traditional English planting of roses, clematis and box. Mediterranean planting of lavender, cistus and rosemary also thrive in this suntrap. Designed for all year round interest, the garden has features for all ages including information panels about the history of the former baths, shivering statue of a young boy, bench seating, sundial, hopscotch pitch of mosaic panels, giant chessboard and boxwood maze to fascinate children.
The garden was created through the generosity of Farnham’s residents, Heritage Lottery and other grant funding. The garden has achieved many awards and these are on display in the Waverley Locality Office, including the Green Pennant Award 2007-8 (the standard award for community management green spaces in England and Wales).
The garden is managed by the Farnham Swimming Baths Trust but maintained by the Friends of the Victoria Garden
