The North Downs Way is a 153 mile national trail which begins in Farnham and passes through contrasting countryside of chalk hills, river valleys and shady woodlands.

The trail begins here in Farnham (at the junction with the A31 – just south of the railway station) and  ends at Dover.  There is a loop at the eastern end to take in the historic Cathedral City of Canterbury.

The first stretch of the trail runs to Guildford across the Hog’s Back and has stunning breathtaking panoramic  views over the countryside.    The trail then passes through the village of Puttenham, taking in the Watts Chapel, before reaching Guildford.  The trail from Farnham to Guildford  is approx 10 miles.

Along the whole route, the trail passes 3 cathedrals, castles, palaces, stately homes, ancient sites and endless defensive fortifications.   Much of the Downs are covered with woodland and rare chalk grasslands, which give rise to a rich diversity of flora and fauna.

In discovering the Downs you will fall upon typical English villages steeped in history - all of them offering a warm welcome to the visitor.

To find out what the Trail can offer from scenic  circular walks to longer sections and for all your accommodation needs along the trail,  visit the national trail website or contact the Trail Office on 01622 221525 email the North Downs Way Manager.
