Following on from the success of the 2009 band concerts, Farnham Town Council is pleased to announce that they are organising 10 concerts in 2010. You can download the leaflet detailing the bands playing at this year's event here.

All concerts are free to attend and are scheduled to take place in Gostrey Meadow, Union Road, Farnham. The nearest car park is Central Car Park in Victoria Road.
Please note that if the weather forecast is adverse, the concerts will be moved to St Andrew’s Church or a nearby venue.

There are a few benches dotted around the edge of Gostrey Meadow but Farnham Town Council welcomes its visitors to bring something comfy to sit on!

Light refreshments will be available at each concert by a different local charity and iced treats will be available from Wayne’s Whippy Ice Cream.

13th June: twentyfivemiles (Motown & Soul)

twentyfivemiles is delighted to have been asked back to this year's Music in the Meadow season. twentyfivemiles are a four piece Motown/Soul covers band fronted by a fabulous female vocalist. The band is hoping that a sunny afternoon and an audience wearing their dancing shoes will greet them at this year's concert! 20th June: Farnham Big Band (Jazz Orchestra)

The Farnham Big Band (FABB) was formed in 2002 and draws on the musical talents of players from West Surrey and North-East Hants with swing in their souls and funk in their fingers. FABB rehearse every Tuesday at Tilford under the musical direction of professional trombonist Paul Coker and the band love to play at functions of all sorts.

FABB is a jazz orchestra with the classic big band line-up of 5 saxes, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones and rhythm section, as used by the greats such as Basie and Ellington.

FABB play a wide range of styles, from the classic swing numbers of Ellington, Basie and Miller, through to modern jazz, funk and latin. In performance, the band is very fortunate to play with talented Sinatra-style professional vocalist, Geoff Kaye. 

4th July: Hart Male Voice Choir

On 4th July, Gostrey Meadow will be home to a bigger event called ‘Picnic in the Park’. This will include more refreshments and more bands, with Hart Male Voice Choir performing between the usual times of 3pm – 5pm. Look out for more details coming soon.

The renowned Hart Male Voice Choir, which is based in Odiham, perform 12 – 15 concerts per year in the region. The choir of 50 - 60 choristers sing a variety of classical and popular male voice songs. On 4th July, being American Independence Day, these will include a number of American songs.

11th July: Something for the Weekend (Pop, Rock & Party Classics)

Something for the Weekend is an established and popular 5 piece party band. The band guarantees to get everyone dancing from grannies to grandchildren and have developed a wide and up-to-date set list of material, which never fails to get the party started! The band play classic material from the 60s - to the modern greats of today.

 

18th July: Friary Guildford Brass Band

The Friary Band is a traditional brass band of 28 amateur musicians, which rehearse in Surrey, but  travel across the country to entertain audiences at a range of events. The band play a wide variety of music, from reflective hymn tunes and popular classics to demanding technical works. Conducted by musical director Chris King, the band has been very successful in brass band competitions and is the Southern Counties Amateur Band Association Band of the Year 2009. The Friary Guildford Band also give regular performances throughout the year to raise funds for local charities. 1st August: Herd of Sax (Light Jazz)

Herd of Sax is a saxophone ensemble group. Herd of Sax perform a wide range of light swing style music for local events. The band consists of 12 players each with different sized saxophones.

8th August: Claire Phoenix Band (Jazz & Pop Classics)

The Claire Phoenix Band deliver mellow, soul, jazz standards, swing and classic pop…from past to present. The set includes music from artists such as Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Roberta Flack, Carol King, Eva Cassidy, Corrine Bailey-Rae and Aretha Franklin, all of which have been individually arranged to bring a fresh feel to the music. Perfect sounds for a relaxing Sunday afternoon.

15th August: Sounding Brass

Sounding Brass is something a little bit different and consists of 5 brass instrumentalists, who will be playing a selection of light and entertaining music from their popular repertoire.

5th September: Rushmoor Concert Band

The Rushmoor Concert Band is led by Phil Lazenbury who retired from the life guards as principal clarinet and leader of the orchestra and now teaches clarinet, violin and piano in the Windsor and Maidenhead area. The band was formed in about 1971 and has about 30 members ranging from all ages and backgrounds, quite a few being ex-military musicians. Their repertoire includes the classics, musicals, film, TV, radio and pop. The band perform four main concerts a year, two of which are a Remembrance concert at the High Cross Church in Camberley (this year's is on Sat 13th Nov at 7:30pm) and a Christmas Concert at the 6th Form College Farnborough (on Dec 18th 6pm). 12th September: Farnham Brass Band

The band was formed in 1975 with the aim of giving youngsters the opportunity to learn to play brass instruments together. It changed its name from Farnham Crosby Concert Band to Farnham Brass Band in 1982. The band is a a non-sponsored community band, which plays at many local events. At Music in the Meadow, the band will be playing tunes from around the world from films and shows such as The Pirates of the Caribbean and The Lion King and maybe even one of the best loved british marches, Punchinello. Come and enjoy a musical afternoon with Farnham Brass Band.
