Butterfly Conservation in Farnham Cemeteries

- Gatekeeper

- Marbled White

- Meadow Brown
A big thank you to all those who took part in collecting results for our Butterfly Count in West Street Cemetery. A special thank you to Mr. Haughney for his efforts.
The results of our Butterfly Count reflect the National statistics. Indicating that sadly, there is a drop in the number of butterflies due to the wet weather we have experienced this Summer.
With that in mind, we are pleased that three specific species of butterfly; the Meadow Brown, the Gatekeeper and the Marbled White, have all benefitted from the uncut grass in the C section of West Street Cemetery where they feed as Caterpillars on the long grass there. Nationwide, these species are the most abundant and the recent weather conditions have favoured the habitat formation for the Caterpillars.
