The annual competition to find Farnham’s best secret gardens is on! We are looking for shop fronts bedecked with floral arrangements, imaginative front and back gardens, wildlife havens, beautiful courtyards, pub gardens with a difference and creative hanging baskets and containers.

Who can enter

The competition is open to gardeners who live in Farnham. This includes:

  • Badshot Lea
  • Hale
  • Upper Hale
  • The Bourne
  • Boundstone
  • Heath End
  • Moor Park
  • Rowledge
  • Weybourne
  • Wrecclesham and
  • Farnham town centre

The categories

There are eight categories, which include:

  • Best courtyard
  • Best hanging basket or container
  • Best front, back or small garden
  • Best large garden
  • Best business premises, public house or hotel
  • Schools’ garden award
  • Best shop front
  • Best wildlife garden

Judging criteria

The judges will be looking for:

  • Planting, annual bedding, shrub borders and other general planting
  • Lawns
  • Hedges
  • Vegetables
  • Compost areas
  • Areas for wildlife
  • Environmental best practice – use of peat-free compost and rainwater harvesting


All entrants will be invited to the Farnham in Bloom Awards’ ceremony, which will be hosted at Squire’s Garden Centre on Thursday 12 October.

The winner of each category will receive a trophy and certificate.

First prize will be £50 in garden vouchers. The winner will hold the trophy for one year. Second and Third places will also receive certificates and garden vouchers.

A ‘Gardener of the Year’ award will also be given by the judges.

Judging day

Judging will take place on  21-23 June 2017.

Closing date

The closing date for entering the competition is Wednesday 14 June 2017.
