Help with residents’ Jubilee Street Party costs
The Diamond Jubilee Central Weekend takes place from Saturday 2 June to Tuesday 5 June 2012. Celebratory activities will be held throughout the United Kingdom and across the Commonwealth. In Farnham, Gostrey Meadow will be buzzing with Farnham residents and visitors during the Jubilee Weekend which will kick off with the Phyllis Tuckwell Summer Fete on the Saturday, the Farnham Churches Diamond Jubilee Outdoor Service on the Sunday followed by the wonderful Jubilee Picnic at noon, organised by Farnham Town Council with ‘Pimms and Proms’.
As part of the celebrations, many Farnham residents are commemorating the Queen’s 60 year reign by holding Street Parties or their own Big Jubilee Lunch. Farnham Town Council has agreed to make a contribution to the costs for Jubilee Street parties. If any organiser wishes to take advantage of this offer they should contact Alan Corcoran at Farnham Town Council’s Offices on 01252 712667.
Councillor John Ward, the Council’s Spokesperson said that, ‘There can be a lot to worry about in organising community events and street parties. We want to help our residents celebrate the Queen's Jubilee and let them have peace of mind by helping with a contribution towards insurance costs. Cllr Pat Frost has also agreed to match the Town Council contribution from the County Councillor Local Committee allocation.’
