Last Thursday 12 January, the Mayor of Farnham, Cllr Jill Hargreaves, hosted a Charity Cabaret Evening at the Farnham Maltings, in aid of her charity of the year, Farnham ASSIST.

The Cabaret, kindly sponsored by Kidd Rapinet, Wise & Co, Acorn Design and the Farnham Maltings, was a wonderful evening of entertainment provided by the fantastic Michael Mates and William Godfree, raising funds for the charity, which dedicates itself to improving the lives and opportunities of the older community in Farnham.

Brian Kurton, Manager of Farnham ASSIST commented, "It was a truly memorable evening and we are so grateful for the generous support that we have received from everyone who came and from all those involved in making it happen. In particular, I would like to thank the Mayor of Farnham, whose support for ASSIST over the last few months has been absolutely amazing. We are passionate about improving the quality of life for older people in the Farnham area, particularly those living on their own, and this event will enable us to continue to develop our work in this, our tenth Anniversary year."

Around 300 people visited the Maltings to enjoy a drinks and canapés reception, followed by an evening of 'Memories of Flanders and Swann' by the talented duo (Mates & Godfree), whom have travelled the length and breadth of the country performing in aid of their charity, Naomi House children's hospice, and are renowned for their wonderful and professional performances.

The Mayor of Farnham, Cllr Jill Hargreaves adds, "The evening was a phenomenal success, and I am delighted with the funds raised (final amount still to be confirmed), enabling me to continue to support Farnham ASSIST. I am extremely passionate in my belief that every person should be treated with dignity and compassion, regardless of age or infirmity, and for these reasons I did not have to think twice about which charity I would choose to support in my Mayoral year."

The Mayor continues "I would like to take this opportunity to thank our event sponsors who have made such a difference to this event, and I was thrilled to have such generous raffle prizes donated from our local businesses and retailers. Without the generosity and hard work of everybody involved in the evening, it would not have been possible. A big thank you to all."

Kidd Rapinet, main sponsors of the cabaret commented "The partners and staff of all 7 of our offices are delighted to attend and support this event in support of our Town Mayor, and the charity, Farnham Assist, who do excellent work to help the older community in our Borough. We are always seeking to be involved in the local community and we were delighted to be offered the opportunity to sponsor this event".
