The Music in the Meadow programme continues this Sunday 20th June with a group with a band which has yet to experience the delight of performing in Farnham’s bandstand. The Farnham Amateur Big Band (FABB) is a jazz orchestra with the classic big band line-up of 5 saxes, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones and rhythm section, as used by the greats.
From 3pm – 5pm, FABB, with talented Sinatra-style professional vocalist, Geoff Kaye, will entertain the audience with a wide range of styles, from the classic swing numbers of Ellington, Basie and Miller, through to modern jazz, funk and latin.

Rhys David, treasurer for FABB says “We rehearse every Tuesday under the musical direction of professional trombonist Paul Coker and we love to play at functions of all sorts. We’re really looking forward to playing in Farnham’s bandstand.”

The concert is free and light refreshments will be available from the Farnham Hedgehogs and Wayne’s Whippy Ice Cream.
Anyone wishing to attend the event is advised to bring their own chair or picnic rug but if adverse weather is forecast, the event will be moved to an indoor venue nearby.
There will be a small gap in the schedule the following Sunday (27th June) as the Town Council organises its monthly Farmers’ Market in Central car park.
However to compensate, the Council is organising an extended event on 4th July called Picnic in the Park.
From 12 Noon – 5pm, Gostrey Meadow will showcase three talented groups, offering an eclectic musical mix. There will be light jazz from the 1920’s and 30’s, a mixture of rock and party covers and a renowned Male Voice Choir will finish proceedings with a range of American themed songs, to mark Independence Day.
A refreshment marquee will also be on site offering; a delicious hog roast, a range of homemade burgers and hot dogs. Light snacks will also be available to purchase as well as a variety of hot and cold soft drinks and alcoholic beverages.
Cllr Stephen O’ Grady, Lead member of the Tourism & Events Working Group said “The council wants to offer a larger event to local residents and visitors, giving them the chance to get together with their family and friends to enjoy a picnic lunch and a whole afternoon of entertainment.”
