Still time to Sponsor Battle of Britain Tribute
Farnham Town Council is half way there in its bid to attract sponsorship for the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain floral tribute. With just £750 to go and no donation too small, the Council is appealing to local shops, businesses, local residents and organisations to help reach the target!
2010 is the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain and a floral tribute has been designed to mark the event.
The Chairman of The Farnham in Bloom Working Group, Cllr Jill Hargreaves, commented:
‘Farnham Town Council would like to pay tribute to those who gave so much during the Battle of Britain. This is an important and poignant anniversary and we would like to show our appreciation and thanks by honouring them with a floral display beside the War Memorial in Gostrey Meadow.
The tribute comprises many hundreds of red white and blue plants so you can imagine how spectacular this would look. This project will cost over £1500 and Farnham Town Council is hoping to persuade local people to make a donation, no amount being too small.
We will acknowledge those who have contributed on a sponsorship plaque beside the floral display.
We do hope you are able to help Farnham show its appreciation to everyone touched by the Battle of Britain in 1940.’
If you would like to be part of this important tribute please e-mail Sheila Rayner or ring 01252 712667 .
