History of Farnham in Bloom
Farnham in Bloom was initiated by the former Farnham Visitors' Council back in 1989.
Things soon moved on and a volunteer group took on the running of Farnham in Bloom. This group comprised the Chairman, Madge Green, and 10 other ladies.
They started off in a small way and gradually built up the displays to be able to enter South East in Bloom. After getting 3rd place twice and 2nd place twice they did win the competition and went on to represent the region in Britain in Bloom. They also won the cleanest town in the South East region.
The ladies worked tirelessly to improve the street scene with flowers with much success. Around 200 baskets were put up each year with another 100 troughs being put out or planted up. The ladies group led the way in this area but handed the baton to Farnham Town Council after 15 very successful years, after the summer of 2005.
Farnham Town Council has now led the way for a few years and in 2008 entered the Town Centre in South & South East in Bloom. Not only did they win Gold but were the regional category winners.
The awards in 2009 and 2010 were Silver-Gilt with many Certificates of Excellence awarded to premises throughout the town.
The Town Centre has been entered into the 2011 competition and with high hopes for a bumper summer with another Gold award.
