Community Fridge & Cupboard

The Community Fridge & Cupboard was launched in August 2020 and is a great way of reducing food waste, bringing people together and supporting the local community. A team of volunteers collect surplus food and household items from 11 local supermarkets, things that would otherwise go to landfill, and make it available for members of the local community at 3 sessions a week. Please check the Facebook page for current opening times https://www.facebook.com/halecommunityfridgeandcupboard

Due to huge increases in demand and reductions in donations from supermarkets, there are now limitations on who can access the Fridge & Cupboard – the Centre prioritises people who live locally.

Community Pop-Up Café; connecting the community

Community Wednesday sessions offer a programme of engaging activities for people of all ages in the community.  From 11.30am to 1.30pm on Wednesdays, visitors can partake of a delicious hot lunch on a pay what you can basis, prepared by volunteers in the Community Centre’s own kitchen using the food they get donated to them by local supermarkets, which otherwise would be thrown away. The Community Cafe also serves fresh bean to cup coffee and a selection of home made cakes.
They also endeavour to provide space to chat or play a board game, get information and help on benefits and bills etc in the Pop-In Space in the main hall. And there is also access to the Community Fridge & Cupboard between 12pm-1.30pm.

If the hustle and bustle isn’t your cup of tea, you can take a moment to relax in the new lounge area.  Ideal for a moment of quiet, or if a safe space is needed to take some rest.  For SEN the Centre also offers this area as a sensory space.
