Farnham Town Council will join 650 organisations in 38 Commonwealth countries when it takes part in a ceremony to raise the Commonwealth flag on Monday 9 March.

Members of the public are invited to join the Mayor of Farnham, Cllr Jeremy Ricketts and guests outside Farnham Town Council at 10am. The Mayor will read a specially written Commonwealth Affirmation before proceeding to raise the flag. As part of the ceremony a candle will be lit to remember the contribution made by the three million men and women who volunteered in World War One.

Cllr Jeremy Ricketts, Mayor of Farnham says: “Commonwealth Day is celebrated across the world every year on the second Monday in March. It provides an opportunity to promote understanding on global issues, international co-operation and the work of Commonwealth organisations. By lighting a candle, we will also be taking the opportunity to commemorate the lives of the many Commonwealth soldiers who lost their lives during the battle of Neuve-Chapelle, which took place between 10 and 13 March 1915.”
