Good luck Farnham

Final preparations are being made by the Farnham in Bloom team for the judging of their entries into the Large Town and Town Centre categories of South and South East in Bloom.

Judging will take place for the Large Town entry on 16 July and the Town Centre category on 17 July.

The Large Town judges will be taken on a tour of Farnham and its villages. As well as seeing an extension of the planting schemes enjoyed in the town centre, the judges will see examples of community participation and environmental projects.

In the town centre, the judges will see how schools and businesses have got involved through the sponsorship of planters and hanging baskets. They will also see projects that aim to enhance biodiversity and improve the look of an area such as the wild flower and tree planting on Dogflud Way. The success of a trial to use peat free compost will also be demonstrated.

Councillor Stephen Hill, Lead Member for Farnham in Bloom says: “For us, Farnham in Bloom is a year-round project. The judges will be scoring us for horticultural achievement, environmental responsibility and community participation. It has to be said that without the involvement of the community and more than 70 sponsors, which include Hamptons Estate agents, our entry would be nowhere near as strong.

“To give ourselves the best possible chance of achieving gold, I am appealing for help from every Farnham resident. Over the next few days, everybody can help to make a positive contribution towards our entry by picking up any litter they see, telling us about any graffiti and helping us to make sure our town looks its absolute best.”
