Little green fingers make Farnham bloom

The first of Farnham’s hanging baskets have been planted by children from Tootsies nursery.

Fourteen children visited Farnham Town Council’s greenhouses and chose a selection of plants, which included trailing petunias, geraniums and bergonias. With a little help, the children planted baskets for display in Castle Street and at their nursery.

Councillor Jeremey Ricketts, Lead Member for Farnham in Bloom says: “The children handled the plants very carefully and made a good job of making some lovely baskets. I would like to thank the children and staff at Tootsies Nursery for their continuing support of Farnham in Bloom. They have shown great enthusiasm for activities ranging from litter picks to the competition to grow the tallest sunflower.”

Speaking after the event, Kirsty Lister from Tootsies said: “The children were very excited to visit the greenhouses. We are very pleased with our hanging baskets and the children had a great time. We have a couple of lovely baskets that we will now display at nursery and all the children will take it in turns to water and look after them.”

Fourteen schools will be planting hanging baskets. The baskets will appear in Castle Street at the end of May and plaques will be put up to show which school planted the various baskets.
