Perfect vegetables

The Mayor and Mayoress with winners of the Allotment Show 2016

Farnham’s allotment holders have been showing off the fruits of their labour at the annual allotment show organised by Farnham Town Council.

The show included competitions to find produce that meets the exacting standards laid down by the RHS. There were various entries ranging from fruit and vegetables to edible products made from allotment produce such as cordial, crisps and cakes. Flowers also featured and included specimen dahlia, vases of sweet peas and mixed garden flowers.

The entries were judged by Jamie Awdry and Audrey Jackman. The Mayor of Farnham, Councillor John Ward presented the prizes.

Councillor Stephen Hill, Lead Member for Community Enhancement says: “I would like to thank everybody who came along to the Allotment Show. We manage eight allotment sites and have over 250 allotment holders and so it is lovely to provide this opportunity for everybody to get together and share allotment tips and advice. The competition entries were really impressive and what surprised me most, was the wide variety of produce that is grown on Farnham’s allotments.”

The cup for the best vegetable collection was presented to Richard Pullen. The prize for best exhibit went to Hazel Sharples who also received a cup for achieving the highest number of points and the Neville Watkins cup for the best specimen dahlia. Sarah Marshall was the runner up for the best exhibit.
