Cheque leads to a bit of a buzz

The Dance Movement, a community dance organisation based at the Farnham Maltings has received a grant for £1,750 from Farnham Town Council.

The Mayor of Farnham, Councillor John Ward presented the cheque which has enabled 150 children to take part in Farnham Blooming, which is an eight week dance project celebrating Farnham in Bloom. The project involved children from 15 local schools and dance groups performing a specially choreographed dance before the judges of Farnham in Bloom on Thursday (7 July).

Prior to presenting the cheque, the Mayor and Mayoress of Farnham were treated to a preview of part of the dance. Children from the William Cobbett School played the part of garden bees. Councillor Ward said: “The dance was very entertaining and involved lots of little bees buzzing around. I am sure the Farnham in Bloom judges will enjoy a spectacular show when the ‘bees’ join the other dancers to perform the whole dance.

“I am delighted that Farnham Town Council has been able to fund this community dance project. Dance is a fantastic means of communication and can help to forge relationships between people and the place they exist.”

Community grants are awarded to not-for-profit organisations for one-off projects or schemes. Applications for a 2016/17 grant can be made between October and December 2016.
