Secret Gardens competition

The annual competition to find Farnham’s best secret gardens has been launched in time for National Gardening Week (10 to 16 April).

Secret Gardens of Farnham 2017 includes eight categories which are designed to appeal to gardeners working on a micro scale right through to those tending to large gardens. Farnham Town Council is keen to involve the wider community and is encouraging businesses to enter the Best Shop Front or Best Business Premises, Public House or Hotel categories.

Iain Lynch, Farnham’s Town Clerk says: “We felt there was no better time to launch the Secret Gardens competition than during National Gardening Week, especially as the week aims to get new gardeners involved.

“The competition is suitable for beginner gardeners as well as those who have many years’ experience. It is one of the many ways that Farnham people can get involved and contribute towards Farnham’s entry into Britain in Bloom and South and South East in Bloom, which is sponsored by Specsavers Farnham. We are looking to find those hidden courtyards, imaginative front and back gardens, wildlife havens, school gardens, stunning shop fronts and creative containers. Our panel of expert judges will reward horticultural talent and environmental responsibility.”

The deadline for entering this free competition is Wednesday 14 June. Judging will take place between 21 and 23 June.

The winner of each category will receive a trophy and certificate and £50 in garden vouchers. All entrants will be invited to the Farnham in Bloom Awards’ ceremony in October.
